An established 501c3 non-profit, Historic Nashville, Inc has been promoting historic preservation efforts and working to save the buildings that keep Nashville unique since 1968. During this time of unprecedented growth and development of the city, Historic Nashville’s mission is more relevant and needed than ever before. Interest in the organization’s work has been on the rise, but HNI has not been seeing a correlation between that interest and a rise in memberships and donations. HNI needed a new nonprofit website with a stronger focus on conversions to capitalize on recent public relations success.
A new nonprofit website for Historic Nashville
NoSleepForSheep stepped in to assist in refreshing the HNI brand as well as redesigning their website with a dual focus on education and conversions. Prior to the redesign, HNI’s site had been expanded in bits and pieces over a number of years, leading to unclear navigations, conflicting calls to action, and a cluttered, dated, look and feel. Additionally, the existing site had been built with a clunky and hard to navigate CMS (content management system), limiting the ability to make changes to the site’s content and styling.
NoSleepForSheep built a custom and fully responsive nonprofit website for HNI. Using WordPress has improved the content management experience of the all-volunteer marketing team who administers the website. We streamlined the site’s navigation for improved user experience, integrated custom post types for better presentation of varying types of content, and implemented clear, concise but tastefully styled calls to action across all pages and posts of the site. Last but not least, the creative team refreshed the existing branding for an increased appeal to younger and female demographics.

In just 3 weeks after the launch of Historic Nashville’s new nonprofit website, overall traffic to the site increased more than 200% over the same period last year. Thanks to clearer navigation, users are spending more time on the site, leading to nearly 400% more page views, 65% more pages per session, and a significant decrease in bounce rate. In that short period of time, thanks to improved calls to action and ease of use, HNI received dozens of new and renewed memberships, donations, and communications from interested volunteers and community partners.
